Vintage + Inspiration = "Vinspiration"

Some things in my clipping file have been there a long time. These vintage Breck Girl ads are among the first things I put in my clipping file that I started when I was about 10 years old. Somehow, I managed to get my hands on a vintage magazine at that age (I've always been a bloodhound when it comes to finding vintage paper ephemera). I fell in love with the technique used to illustrate the Breck Girls. It is such a lost art.

Vinspiration: Vintage Gold Medal Enriched Flour Advertisement (with recipe transcription)

Transcription of the Cooky Sundae Pie Recipe in the advertisement

Ingredients:

• 1/2 cup soft butter
• 1/4 cup sifted confectioners'sugar
• 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
• 1 cup sifted Gold Medal flour
• 1/8 tsp salt
• 1 quart ice cream

Instructions:

1. Mix butter, sugar and vanilla thoroughly
2. Sift flour and salt together
3. Add butter mixture and blend
4. Chill 30 to 45 minutes
5. Heat oven to 400°F (moderately hot)
6. Pat dough evenly into ungreased 9-inch pie pan
7. Flute edge
8. Prick
9. Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned
10. Cool
11. Just before serving, fill with ice cream and top as desired
